A care home in Wanstead is to close temporarily to allow the old building to be entirely redeveloped to provide a complete care experience for Redbridge’s elderly residents.

Westgate Healthcare took over The Chestnuts Nursing & Dementia Care Home in Cambridge Park, Wanstead, five years ago when it was under threat of closure, and have now announced plans to close and redevelop the site.

The new Chestnuts building will retain the front facade but will overhaul the rest of the structure to create a fully accessible modern care facility.

A Westgate Healthcare spokeswoman said: “We look forward to bringing a high quality, purpose-built care facility to Wanstead to support the elderly community.”

“It is the end of an era for the existing Chestnuts and it is with sadness that we have commenced closing down the care home ahead of the redevelopment.

“We are working closely with Redbridge Council and families to support our residents to find suitable new homes and to ensure the transition will be as smooth and stress free as possible.”
