Children and adults alike turned up at Loxford Park in Loxford Lane, Ilford, on Saturday to pick litter and lay wood-chips under shrubs and trees before the children played football in the spruced up park.

The community clean-up and fun day was organised by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Event organiser Habiba Ahmed, from Woodford Green, said: “It’s nice to do something for the community because it is a deprived area and we want to keep it nice and tidy for the children who play here.

“It’s about being proud, valuing the area, keeping it clean and having fun at the same time – it’s something I hope the children will take forward with them.”
