To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian independence Valentines Mansion has three special exhibitions on the historic year.

The shows are part of the Indian Summer at Valentines, which celebrates the long standing relationship between the two countries.

Up until September 3, a special Redbridge Musuem exhibition explores the 400 year old links between India and our borough.

The displays at the beautiful building in Emerson Road, Ilford, show objects from the East India Company and illustrate the connections with Redbridge’s Indian diaspora of the last 50 years.

The Mansion’s studio artists have also intepreted the celebrations in their own way, with fused glass, ceramics and paintings.

And the Bird Room cabinets, until Wednesday, August 30, show the crowd sourced show, with artefacts provided by members of the public.

Photographs, souvenirs and memorabilia from India are on display in this exhibition, which is one of the most fascinating parts of the Indian Summer at Valentines.
