Uphall Primary School in Ilford celebrated heroes from across the world as part of its Unsung Heroes Week, that included a visit from The Chase’s Dark Destroyer, Shaun Wallace.
As part of both Remembrance and Black History events, students at the school in Uphall Road looked at black authors, illustrators and poets, posters and extracts from biography books displayed around the library and looked for books that are inclusive and reflect the diversity of different communities.
Throughout the week (November 12-16) students focused on at least ten famous Afro American people that changed the world. Apart from being hugely famous or infamous people, they had such a powerful impact that they changed the course of human history.
Shaun Wallace, who is famous for being a “Chaser” on the ITV quiz show The Chase, and is a barrister came to the school to talk to students
Assistant headteacher, Catherine Brooker said: “Mr Wallace gave a truly inspirational talk to the whole school and he visited the early years and listened to them singing songs and shared his barristers outfit with the children.”
He was very engaging and pupils were very excited especially when he played them a scene from The Chase where he won with one second remaining.
“He addressed black history and spoke about his own journey which was captivating.”
