Leyton Orient manager Mauro Milanese suggested his position was not permanent and the club were still looking to find the right man to take them forward.

Milanese was appointed on Sunday under direction from owner Francesco Becchetti, and got his spell in charge underway with a 2-0 home loss to Preston North End tonight.

And while happy to be in the position, he suggested he was not a permanent replacement for Russell Slade, who left the club over a month ago to take the job at Cardiff City.

“The president (Francesco Becchetti) called me on Sunday morning to say he wanted me in charge until another decision would be made,” said Milanese.

“I am happy to do my job here and I am also happy to be back as sporting director, no problem. The most important thing is Leyton Orient.

“I am in charge and I will try to do my best in any position.”

And before answering the call from Becchetti, Milanese admitted he had no interest in taking the position.

“The president asked me to do this, and I needed to follow this,” he added.

“It was no ambition.I had no reason to change the job fter three years as a sporting director in Italy, but of course I try to do my best in the position the president asked me.

If you ask me about ambition, it is to win games in any position, whether it be caretaker manager, football director, coach or manager.”
