A 53- year- old man is in a stable but critical condition after he was pulled from a burning flat in Barkingside.
He was taken to Royal London hospital in Whitechapel by the London Air Ambulance.
A Redbridge police spokesman said that early signs indicated the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
The Princes Road property has been cordoned off by police.
