Two men have been arrested and placed on immigration bail following a raid at an Ilford builder’s merchants yesterday.

The raid, by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) took place at around 2pm at the warehouse in Major’s Builder’s Merchants in High Road, Ilford.

The two men, who are Indian, are now waiting to be deported from the country.

One man, aged 30, has overstayed his visa, and another, aged 43, had entered the country illegally.

Richard Marley, head of the UKBAs Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge local immigration team, said: “Our officers carry out hundreds of operations like this across London every year, and where we find people who are in the UK illegally we will seek to remove them.”
