Four women were led to safety after a suspected arson attack damaged the hallway and front door of their Ilford flat in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters from Ilford and Barking were called at 2.50am to the fire above Ali’s Barber Shop, in High Road.

The London Ambulance Service treated two women for shock and smoke inhalation at the scene.

Fourteen firefighters had the fire under control in less than hour.

The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated, but Ilford CID have said they are treating the fire as arson at this stage.
