UPDATE: Cut overhead lines force Seven Kings station to close

PUBLISHED: 09:39 23 January 2012 | UPDATED: 16:27 23 January 2012

Seven Kings station is closed this morning because overhead rail lines fell close to the platform after vandals cut through them overnight.

A train driver reported seeing cabling hanging down near the station in High Road at 5.40am this morning.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “They carry a large amount of electricity so we had to make that safe. That’s why trains are not stopping at the station.

“The station will remain closed until we can get the cabling safely secured and make sure it’s completely safe.”

British Transport Police officers have been at the scene this morning assessing the damage.

Last week cabling was stolen close to Ilford station, causing delays for commuters.

UPDATE: The station was reopened before lunchtime and is now fully operational.
