Two Redbridge restaurants are competing to make east London the “Curry Capital of Britain” in a national competition.

Jalalabad in Eastern Avenue, Newbury Park, and London Darbar, in Cranbrook Road, Ilford are representing the region along with two restaurants in Barking and Whitechapel.

Last year, Bradford narrowly beat Glasgow and Wolverhampton to take the curry crown for a third time but this year more cities than ever are attempting to curry favour with judges.

There is also a public vote at www.currycapitalofbritain.org.uk/vote and a takeaway award.

The event is part of National Curry Week in October and aims to showcase the diverse culture and passion of British Indian food.
