If you see a man clad in yellow lycra zip past you in Woodford Green today, don’t be alarmed.
The Tour de France arrives in Redbridge at approximately 2.40pm, entering the borough (and Greater London) via Epping New Road.
Cyclists including reigning champion Chris Froome will then speed down Woodford Green High Road, where the largest crowds are likely to be gathered, before the peloton exits Redbridge after a mere few minutes by Woodford New Road.
As well as excitement, there may also be road congestion, as most streets near the route are closed between 10am-6pm, with some such as Waterworks Corner closing at 9am. See the full map above. Red is the path of the race; green are nearby roads that are closed.
Its main attraction may be speedy and short, but the build-up to the race’s incursion into Redbridge begins at 1pm, with the Tour’s caravan parading along the route. It consists of a convoy of floats and other vehicles handing out promotional material and other merchandise.
