Taboo, the new BBC drama starring Tom Hardy, which was partly filmed in Wanstead, is to air in the New Year.

Part of the show was filmed in St Mary’s Church, in Overton Drive, with Hardy’s presence attracting a gaggle of diehard fans.

He plays James Keziah Delaney, who builds a shipping empire to rival the famous East India Company in the miniseries set in the 1800s.

Redbridge’s only Grade II listed building appears to play a big part in the TV show, appearing in the trailer.

Keep your eyes open to see Wanstead popping up on the Beeb in the new year.
