Thousands of Sikhs are expected to join an annual procession on Sunday which will culminate with a marshall arts demonstration outside the Singh Sabha Gurdwara in High Road, Seven Kings.
Nagar Kirtan, a procession which has been running in Redbridge since 1999, is expected to attract more than 5,000 Sikhs - but other members of the public are welcome too.
Pop-up stands offering free food will line the walk from Barking gurdwara to the Seven Kings gurdwara.
The celebration commemorates the revelation of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs.
Mankamal Singh, 40, treasurer of the gurdwara in Seven Kings, said: “Nagar Kirtan is a regular occurrence in the Sikh community.
“Here in Redbridge we do our procession in September to mark the first instalment of the Guru Granth Sahib in the Golden Temple, which happened in 1604.”
The procession starts at 11am from the Singh Sabha Barking, before finishing at Singh Sabha Seven Kings at 3pm.
“Hymns are sung from the Guru Granth Sahib all the way through - you will find food served all along the way, loads of food,” added Mr Singh.
“More and more of the community will join in and it grows and grows until the procession ends.”
The route will go along Ilford Lane down Bedford Road towards Albert Road before reaching Sunnyside Road and finishing at High Road, Seven Kings.
Onlookers are asked not to smoke or drink alcohol near to the procession and to be respectfully dressed.
