A driver got away with a full tank of stolen fuel at Goodmayes Tesco on Friday, scraping customers’ cars as he sped away.
A witness said the man driving a silver Passat “shook the vehicle” to fit in the last drop of diesel before driving off without paying.
Number plates had been taken off the car.
A Redbridge Police spokesman said they were investing the theft at the supermarket filling station in High Road, Goodmayes, at 4.50pm.
