The Valentine pub, which announced yesterday it was closing, has been sold to a real estate company in Luton for more than £5million, the Recorder can reveal.

Documents show Hull Propco bought the land in Perth Road, Gants Hill for the sum of £5,885,472 in September 2015.

Companies House lists the firm as performing “letting and operating of own or leased real estate”.

A spokeswomen for The Valentine said: “The venue is now closed having been sold to a new owner.

“We cannot confirm the future plans for the venue.”

Hundreds of residents have expressed their sadness at the pub shutting and credit it with years of brilliant nights out.

A 47-year-old Gants Hill resident said that he met his wife at the pub when he was 18 and that “The Val” will always have a special place in his heart.

“We went there every week,” he said.

“I don’t feel too happy if it turned into houses, it was a nice community pub.”
