The streets of Ilford were alive with music this weekend as artists from all over the world performed in venues around the borough.

Residents were entertained as The Streets music festival returned for the second time this year.

The festival, which is part of the bigger London Jazz Festival, aims to celebrate community spaces, said the event’s executive producer, Ian Nolan.

He said: “The event is about putting culture on the high street and reanimating spaces that are at the heart of our communities, and Ilford has a long-standing history as a shopping destination for residents of Redbridge.”

More than 20 artists performed in a variety of spaces, including Redbridge Town Hall, Ilford Exchange Shopping Centre and The General Havelock, in High Road, Ilford.

Cllr Ross Hatfull, cabinet member for civic pride, hopes the event will boost the area.

He said: “These performances not only raise the profile of Ilford as a destination, they bring music, colour and excitement to the area for all to enjoy.”
