Redbridge residents will get the chance to speak out on the future of policing in Redbridge which could include the sale of Wanstead and Woodford stations.
Stephen Greenhalgh, London’s deputy mayor for policing and crime, will host a meeting at Redbridge Town Hall in High Road, Ilford, on February 11.
The meeting, one of a series being held in every London borough, forms part of a public consultation on plans which include provisions for the Met Police’s property estate.
The force has to save �514million from its budget by 2015 and Redbridge’s borough commander Det Ch Supt Sue Williams has admitted it is “extremely unlikely” both Wanstead station, in Spratt Hall Road, and Woodford station, in High Road, Woodford Green, will remain open.
The Met has already made proposals to the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) to close the front counters at both stations and reduce the opening hours of the front counter at Barkingside police station in High Street.
The draft police and crime plan being produced by MOPAC will include measures to boost neighbourhood policing in London with 2,000 extra officers, according to a spokesman, and to only close front counters where “equivalent or better facilities” can be found.
