A teenager appeared in court for the first time today, charged with murdering Ricky Hayden and attempting to murder his father.

Tommy Roome, 19, of Rams Grove, Chadwell Heath, is accused of fatally wounding the 27-year-old doorman and injuring his father Paul, at around 1.25am on September 13.

After a brief hearing at Barkingside Magistrates Court, the teenager confirmed his name and date of birth.

The case was transferred to the Old Bailey to be heard on Monday.

Mr Roome was remanded into custody due to the seriousness of the offences.

Ricky, a Romford doorman, died after he and his 46-year-old dad Paul confronted a gang who were attempting to steal a moped outside their home in Gibbfield Close, Chadwell Heath.
