Ilford South MP Mike Gapes heard from a number of students from Seven Kings High School about the global education crisis affecting 263 million children and young people.

Councillor John Howard also visited the school, in Ley Street, on June 30 to listen to the students who were taking part in the national Send My Friend to School campaign.

“It’s very encouraging to see young people speaking out to highlight global issues, particularly on international development,” said Mr Gapes.

“I have heard the message from students at Seven Kings High School and will do my bit to urge the government to invest more in education in Britain and abroad.”

Executive headteacher Tracy Smith said: “Our students spoke passionately about the issues facing millions of children across the world who are prevented from receiving a quality education.

“It was fantastic to see them making their voices heard and trying to make a difference.”
