A student is planning to get in touch with his roots while raising money for charity and climbing the world’s tallest free-standing mountain.
Hiran Adhia from Clayhall is hoping to raise £3000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation on a six day trek, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The Warwick University Philosophy, Politics and Economics student is urging people to sponsor him on his climb, which will start in September 2015.
The fundraising student said: “My parents were both born in that part of the world and I have never had the inclination to go back - until now. I am taking on the challenge for those that can’t.
“Climbing Kili seems a doddle in comparison to what they [the sufferers] go through!”
The charity work to fund research into meningitis and septicaemia and provides support to those affected by the diseases.
MRF community fundraising officer Susie Bailey said: “We are so grateful to Hiran who is raising money for MRF by climbing Kilimanjaro.
“Meningitis and septicaemia are diseases that can leave a baby, child or adult fighting for their life within hours of the first symptoms.”
