An Ilford resident has completed a marathon to raise money for a charity honouring the memory of more than 8,000 people massacred in the Srebrenica genocide.
Mudassar Shahzad walked the Crystal Palace marathon in gruelling 10 hours and 10 minutes to raise money and awareness of charity Remembering Srebrenica on Saturday, October 13.
He said: “I signed up to Crystal Palace Marathon March in order to help raise awareness of the Srebrenica genocide and to remind people of the consequences of unchallenged hatred.
“It is up to all us to stand up against intolerance and bigotry.
He added: “I remember watching the horrific scenes from the Bosnian War unfolding on the TV in the 1990s.
“I will not forget seeing men being loaded on trucks, never to return and hearing about what happened to the women.
As he walked, he carried with him a card bearing the name of one of the victims.
