The future of the GP practice based at King George Hospital – scheduled to close in March – will be debated at tonight’s Health Scrutiny Committee.

Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will give a primary care update to councillors in Redbridge Town Hall, High Road, Ilford.

Sarah See, director of primary care transformation, will explain the decision to close Spearpoint Surgery, based at the Barley Lane hospital, Goodmayes.

A major reason given to close the practice, which moved from Aldborough Road North, Newbury Park, in 2013, was the low number of registered patients – 2,500.

But Ron Jeffries, chairman of the Aldborough Hatch Defence Association, is to question why Spearpoint is closing when there are 11 other surgeries within a three mile radius that have less than 3,000 patients.
