The Royal Mail delivery office in South Woodford is set to close in May.

A spokesman from Royal Mail said that from Monday, May 14 services in Marlborough Road will be relocated to a site in Chingford.

There will be no impact on deliveries to customers, and there will be no job losses as a result of the relocation.

Royal Mail has said that it needed to find a new location for its South Woodford office because it is an old building that no longer meets requirements, does not have sufficient parking space for vehicles, or for moving mail around safely on site, and it doesn’t have any customer parking.

The delivery office in Chingford offers improved services according to Royal Mail, and it will be open later than the current office including until 8pm on Wednesday evenings, and on Sundays between 11am
and 3pm.

A spokesman from Royal Mail said: “This is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business to increase the efficiency of its operation as well as providing delivery offices which are fit for purpose for our people and for our customers.

“We are undertaking detailed planning to ensure a smooth transition for our operations, our people and the service we provide to customers.

“There will be no impact on mail deliveries to customers, who will continue to be served by the same postmen and women.

“Royal Mail acknowledges the interest that the relocation has raised within the community. Whilst we welcome feedback from customers, we need to modernise our operations and provide better and fit for purpose facilities for our customers and our people.”

“We have explored options for retaining a mail collection facility in South Woodford using a local Post Office branch but it does not have sufficient space to offer this service.”
