A South Woodford man has been jailed for abusing a nine-year-old girl when he was 11.

Lawrence Graham, 53, of High Road, was given 20 months for historic sexual abuse of a child, on Friday, March 23 at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

He was sentenced for two counts of indecent assault, contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 1956, for incidents that took place between 1976 and 1977.

He is also subject to a 10-year notification requirement which means during this time he will have to disclose to the police personal information including his bank details, any foreign travel and if he lives with anyone under 18.

In August 2016 the victim came forward to police to report the crime and Graham was arrested in October of that year and charged in July 2017.

Det Con Kelly Smith, of the child abuse and sexual offences command, said: “I thank the victim for having the bravery to come forward and tell her story which must have been extremely difficult.

“I want this sentence to reassure other victims that the Met will always fully investigate these allegations, no matter how long ago they happened.”
