South Woodford club Funky Mojoe has hours cut and licence suspended for six weeks, but legal fight expected

A South Woodford nightclub has had its opening hours slashed and will be forced to shut for six weeks, after councillors decided it had become a magnet for violent disorder.
The fate of Funky Mojoe, High Road, was decided on Friday by councillors sitting on the licensing sub-committee.
Those at the two-day meeting, in Redbridge Town Hall, High Road, Ilford, watched CCTV footage of a string of incidents outside the club.
Councillors decided to cut the venue’s hours so it closes at 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
All customers must leave the premises by midnight.
Funky Mojoe was allowed to trade until 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12.30am Sunday to Thursday.
But with the club allowed to appeal, and with the venue’s solicitor questioning the validity of the CCTV, the situation may be far from resolved.
Church End ward Cllr Richard Hoskins said: “We’re facing a long legal road that will go on and on.
“But we’re committed to continue fighting to the end and we need to keep the council on our side.”
Speaking of the decision to suspend the club’s licence for six weeks, Cllr Hoskins said: “At the moment it [Funky Mojoe] is attracting young people who drink to the early hours and this is where anti-social behaviour breaks out.
“We need to break the cycle of customers going to Mojoe – there has been a change there in the last three or four years.”
Funky Mojoe, via its solicitors Dadds, had called for the licensing hearing to be adjourned.
But councillors denied the request for an adjournment on Thursday, with the club’s representatives reacting by leaving the meeting.
Funky Mojoe has 21 days to appeal from when it receives notice of the decision formally - expected to be later this week.
