Orient boss Russell Slade was delighted with the character shown by his players as they returned to the top of League One.

A late Dean Cox volley rescued a point against Sheffield United in a game the O’s dominated for long periods, and Wolves’ defeat at Peterborough means they go top on goal difference.

Slade said: “That’s as good as we’ve played in periods. We dominated everything and showed great intensity.

“We kept creating openings which is pleasing. After going behind we kept plugging away and got our just rewards.

“We had a wobble when the scored, which was a horrible goal from our point of view.

“It’s a boost to be back on top.”

Slade revealed key striker Kevin Lisbie turned his ankle in the last minute of Friday’s training session.

Shaun Batt came in for the 35-year-old and caused Sheffield United’s defence problems all afternoon.

His manager was chuffed with his performance.

“Batt’s got a great attitude,” said Slade.

“He was magnificent.

“We are disappointed it’s only a point because it should have been three. Their keeper was the man of the match, making two or three brilliant saves.

“But we’re loving live at the moment and we’ll take every challenge as it comes.”
