Residents showed off their sewing skills at an event celebrating Ilford’s shops.

Participants took to Regent Home of Sewing on Saturday as part of a project being run by artist Lucy Harrison, which is looking at the impact of the town’s independent businesses – both old and new.

The event, in Chapel Road, was led by Jennie Caminada, who teaches classes through her business Cheeky Handmades.

Participants were tasked with using sewing machines to “draw” pictures on fabric. They created Ilford-related items as well as creations to take home with them.

The initiative will culminate in the launch of a free guidebook, featuring a variety of historic and current businesses.
