A seven-year-old leukaemia survivor from Wanstead took to the ice with Sir Ian Botham last night to raise funds for charity.

Oisin Coll, of St Margaret’s Road, and his family, visited Canary Wharf ice rink to support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

And the youngster, a pupil at Aldersbrook Primary School in Harpenden Road, will join the cricketing legend on the London leg of his national walk for the cause in April.

His mother, Nicola, 41, said: “It’s amazing what this charity has done.

“In the 1980s only 20 per cent of kids survived leukaemia and now it’s 90 per cent.”

Oisin, 7, braved the ice with younger brother Dara, 4, aided by portable penguin statues to help them keep their balance.

Earlier in the day, the family and Sir Ian visited the Nike Town store in central London where Oisin got to design his own pair of trainers.

Oisin was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in November 2007 and endured over three years of treatment but has now made a full recovery.

His mother said: “He’s really active, like any normal seven year old, he’s full of energy.”

Proceeds from ticket sales and drinks on the night will go to the charity.
