It was the end of an era on Friday when a couple who worked at King George Hospital for almost 20 years retired together.

Healthcare assistant Patrick Bullman, 68, and his wife Patricia, a 67-year-old nurse, had both worked at the hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes, since 1997 but are now looking forward to being able to spend more time with their friends and family.

The couple, of Westwood Road, Seven Kings, have been together for 50 years, and have enjoyed being lucky enough to work together.

Patrick said: “We’re very professional at work but it is nice to have lunch together.

“We’ve both really enjoyed our time at the Trust. I’ve learned so much and got to do different things.”

Patricia added: “I’ve enjoyed every single minute of work. We have a bit of banter with the doctors and nurses and caring for the patients always comes first.”

Despite the couple’s retirement, the Bullman family’s involvement with Barking, Havering won’t be stopping any time soon.

The couple’s daughter, Lisa, is a resuscitation officer and four of their grandchildren work for the Trust, their granddaughter is a phlebotomist, two of their grandsons works as porters and a third works in security.
