For those wanting to exercise their vocal chords, a new gospel workshop will be held on Saturday led by a professional choir leader.

Choir singing has seen a surge in popularity since the BBC’s Gareth Malone shot to fame teaching choral music to people with little singing experience.

In a similar vein, Reverend Christine Powell of Seven Kings United Free Church, Meads Lane, Seven Kings encourages people to take part in the event.

“You don’t need any level of skill or expertise,” she said. “If you like singing, we think you’ll have a great time.”

Professional choir leader, John Fisher, will head the session between 2pm and 5pm and an informal concert will be held at the church at 7pm.

It is hoped a community gospel choir will be formed if enough people show interest. The church would also like to hear from people who could lead the group.
