THE BOROUGH’S firefighters are due to walk out in the second of two eight-hour strikes.
Crews at Ilford, Hainault and Woodford stations will join colleagues across the capital in downing tools from 10am until 6pm in a row over new contracts.
It is the second strike in less than two weeks and a 47-hour walkout is planned to begin on Bonfire Night (November 5).
On October 23, crews joined a picket line at Dagenham Station, where a private firm brought in to provide emergency cover across London was based.
The company, who have also been called in to cover this strike, will only be able to deploy up to 27 fire engines across the capital.
The Fire Brigade Union is unhappy about changes to shift patterns and “sacking notices” that have been sent to staff.
Ron Waite, London FBU’s Redbridge representative, defended the decision to strike, saying it had been taken “reluctantly” by firefighters.
