The spirit of Shakespeare was alive and well this week as a primary school celebrated his work.

St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, in Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, marked World Book Day last week with a week of celebrations themed on the Bard and his plays.

Youngsters studied and performed his works, and on Thursday they dressed up as their chosen characters.

Assistant headteacher and English co-ordinator Lorraine Lucey said: “Every year group took a different play and focused on that for a week.

“Lower down the school, we found different version which were more simple.

“The children and staff put a lot of effort into their costumes.”
