More than 100 “Santas” made their way round a five kilometre course on Sunday to raise 1,700 for the Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford Green.

The festive family fun-run saw 425 participants donned Santa suits at Dagenham and Redbridge football club.

One hundred and twenty five of the runners took part for the hospice in High Road which helps children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Marsha Giltnane, leader of a local Weight Watchers group, did the run with her slimming group.

She said: “We’re so pleased that we did this year’s Santathon for Haven House.

“It was a fantastic way to help us lose the pounds and support a really special local cause that does so much for seriously ill children and their families.”

Mike Palfreman, the hospice’s chief executive, said: “It was a really fun event and everyone who took part really got into the festive spirit.

“However, it was also about raising vital funds to help support local life-limited children at this special time of year and we’re grateful to everyone who did just that.”
