It’s not often you can help the environment, help get someone back into work and contribute to a good cause all in one fell swoop.
The Salvation Army has been saving unwanted bikes from landfill and teaching rough sleepers to fix them up and is now selling them on to the public.
The project has been run at the centre and church in Clements Road, Ilford and organisers say it will help people learn new skills and help get them back into work.
Church leader Lt John Clifton, 26, said: “People should buy bikes from us because it’s not just buying a bike - it’s investing in our community and somebody’s future.
“The money will go towards helping homeless people back into employment.”
The bike sale will be held on Saturday from 10am-2pm at the Salvation Army.
Representatives from the police will also be on hand to help with bike safety.
