Jury deliberations began today in the murder trial of much-loved club doorman Ricky Hayden.

The Old Bailey heard how the 27-year-old doorman and former bodyguard to the stars was stabbed outside his home,in Gibbfield Close, Chadwell Heath, by two machete-wielding teenagers on September 13.

Jurors were told Ricky, his brother Perry, 21, and dad Paul, 55, confronted Tommy Roome, 19, and Tarrell Hinds, 20, believing they were about to snatch Perry’s scooter.

The court heard the defendants had gone to the close to look for two other brothers, Carter and Latham Jordan, with whom Roome was involved in an ongoing dispute.

Giving evidence, Mr Roome, 19, of Rams Grove, Chadwell Heath, told jurors he only pulled out his knife to defend himself and insisted he had never intended to kill or cause anyone serious harm.

Mr Roome and Mr Hinds, Manford Cross, Hainault, deny murdering Ricky, the attempted murder of Paul, and an alternative charge of wounding with intent.
