Orient’s first half annihilation of Gillingham was up there with anything they have produced this season, said manager Russell Slade.

The O’s scored four goals in the first 35 minutes as they put a run of bad form well and truly behind them.

Equally pleasing was the strikers return to goalscoring form. An Orient frontman had not found the back of the net since March 1 prior to Saturday’s game but David Mooney, Kevin Lisbie and Chris Dagnall were all on target at Brisbane Road.

Slade said: “The first 45 minutes is up there with anything we’ve produced this season.

“In League One the games are very tight generally speaking. But sometimes you get that one day when everything pays off and this was one of them.

“We put in almost perfect first half performance.”

With a probable play-off campaign just around the corner Orient could be returning to form at just the right time.

And with an almost fully-fit squad to choose from bar hamstring injury victim Marvin Bartley it is shaping up to be an exciting end to the season for Slade’s team.

The manager added: “We’re just concentrating on the last four games. We put in a strong performance up at Sheffield United and were perhaps unlucky not to get three points and we carried it on against Gillingham.

“We’ll keep plugging away but I don’t think it’s important which play-off position we finish in.

“We were never a bad side overnight.”

Orient’s win moved them back into third courtesy of Rotherham’s draw with Bradford.

Slade confirmed that Bartley won’t be available for the Easter programme but there was no other injury news to report from the weekend.
