The Redbridge Citizens group is inviting residents to attend a housing summit in Ilford.

The Redbridge Citizens group is inviting residents to attend a Housing Summit today (Thursday), at 7.30pm.

The event, at Ilford Salvation Army, in Clements Road, Ilford, will see the leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal and Cllr Farah Hussain, the cabinet member for housing, held to account by the community group.

Lt John Clifton said: “The event is an opportunity to hold our politicians to account on commitments.”

At the event, the campaign group will be calling on the council to secure a deal on establishing the first Community Land Trust site.

There will also be an update on Hyleford Hostel, Boundary Close, Ilford, where homeless families told the Recorder in February that the space was mice-infested and overcrowded.

A council spokeswoman insisted there were daily cleaners and fortnightly pest control inspections.

The meeting will also support council efforts to implement a selective registration scheme for landlords, in 14 wards deemed to have the highest number of private renters.
