Ten candidates for the youth elections in the borough have been announced - two of which will become members of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP).

Youngsters across the borough have until Wednesday February 12 to read the manifestos of all the candidates and vote.

The two with the most votes will become MYPs

Cllr Elaine Norman, the cabinet member for children and young people, commended both last year’s MYPs and the latest candidates.

She said: “I would encourage people across the borough to make sure they have a voice and vote in the Youth Election.

“We have excellent candidates who each have their own ideas of how they want to represent young people and shape the borough to help their peers.

“The outgoing Members of Youth Parliament have led some amazing projects this year.”

A grant of £100,000 was spent on setting up a careers conference, crime and safety workshops, and upcoming mental health awareness events.
