Redbridge youngsters nominated for Young Muslim Writers Awards

Young wordsmiths in the borough could be taking home a writers’ prize at an award ceremony on Saturday.
Four youngsters from Redbridge have been nominated to win a Young Muslim Writers Award at an event at Senate House in London.
Among the nominees are Woodford County High School pupil Nusrat Razzaque, 12, from Woodford Green, in the key stage three poetry category, Al-Noor Primary pupil Zaynab Hakim, six, from Ilford, in the key stage one short story category, Al-Noor Primary pupil Safa Shazad, six, from Ilford, in the key stage one poetry category, and Gearies Primary pupil Imani Ahmed, 10, from Ilford, in the key stage two short story category.
A total of forty shortlisted entries have been assessed and scored by a diverse panel of judges and the winners will be announced and awarded at the ceremony.
Writer and radio producer Simon Brett said: “I was impressed by the variety of entries. Each had a different approach and a different voice which demonstrated the writer’s imagination.”
