Redbridge women got together to discuss issues that affect physical, mental and sexual health.

The Shaping our Future event was held at Redbridge Central Library, in Clements Road, Ilford on Saturday and was organised by sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

Women had the opportunity to talk to each other and access information about a range of topics including domestic abuse, female genital mutilation (FGM) and contraception.

Speakers included Dr Edwin Mapara, leading specialist in treating women affected by FGM, and Dr Yansie Rolston, who is a specialist on self-esteem and mental health.

Vernal Scott, community engagement Officer at Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “It was brilliant to see women from all different backgrounds and communities discussing the issues that are important to them.

“We work hard to build strong relationships in Redbridge and events like this are a great opportunity to raise the profile of all that we offer, including testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.”
