Redbridge volunteers needed for Olympics

BUDDING volunteers have just two days to apply for their spot at the London Olympic Games.

General volunteers, called Games Makers, will be involved in a range of aspects of the 2012 event.

Roles include drivers, uniform distributors, ticket checking and airport welcoming.

Barkingside resident Gerald Sheridan is applying and says others should do the same.

The 77-year-old was a spectator for the London Games in 1948 and has fond memories of the events and the impact that the Games had on post war Londoners.

He said: “I remember the huge numbers of people when we got to Wembley, it was incredible. “The 1948 Games were exhilarating, we had a wonderful time and Londoners were inspired for years afterwards as a result.”

He added: “Everyone in Redbridge who can should apply to volunteer. If I can do it anyone can - I can’t wait.”
