Redbridge volunteers including young police cadets were among those tackling a series of army style challenges to raise funds for a hospice.
The Mud ‘n’ Madness challenge took place in North Ockendon on Saturday to help Saint Francis Hospice in Havering-Atte-Bower.
Jesal Shah, from Ilford, was one of those, along with her relatives, who took on kayaking, a run through mud and a beer barrel carrying exercise.
She said: “It was an incredible experience, one that I haven’t had before.”
Ten cadets and staff from Redbridge volunteer police cadets also took part and the first cadet to finish was Deniz Soyer.
Pc Amanda Miller, Redbridge’s youth engagement officer, said: “This wasn’t your typical iron man or adventure race it was so much more and I’ve never seen so much mud.”
It is hoped the day will have raised £18,000 for the charity.
Saint Francis Hospice has various events planned during its 30th anniversary this year from walks and runs to skydives, dances and even quiz nights.
