Two schools have teamed up to host a summer concert for friends and family.

Ilford County High School, in Fremantle Road, Ilford, and Woodford County High School, in High Road, Woodford Green, put on their second annual event following the success of last year’s show, which the schools agreed “set a new standard for musical performances.”

Last week, choirs and orchestras from both schools met for the concert, showcasing a variety of music.

Katie Hasler, head of music at the Woodford school, said: ”The bar was raised yet again. Ilford Brass Band performed the opening fugue, followed by the Ilford Indian Music Ensemble who performed the standard Rag Bhupali. Then came a virtuosic performance of Nina Simone’s classic Feeling Good, feautring sixth form solists from Woodford County High with the school’s senior choir.

“It was the joint orchestral and choral works which truly were the highlight of the evening though, with a large number of musicians coming together to perform. The calibre of musicianship demonstrated by students was undeniably high and numerous members of the audience commented on both the exceptional music that was created, and the sense of camaraderie and friendship that could be seen between students and staff from the two schools.”
