Five Redbridge schools enthusiastically took part in an inter-borough tournament, against schools from Barking and Dagenham and Havering, on Friday.

“They do fall over, they do get battered and bruised, but they don’t get badly injured, the kids love it,” said Oaks Park High School teacher Stephen Chapman.

Pupils gleefully whizzed around the football pitches at Fairlop Oak Power League, in Forest Road, Hainault, trying to thwack in as many goals while staying upright on two wheels.

Mr Chapman added: “It definitely encourages students to get out on their bikes.”

The Redbridge schools which participated were Ilford County High School, in Barkingside, Oaks Park High School, in Newbury Park, and The Ursuline Academy, in Ilford,

The other schools to take on the rival boroughs were Beal High School, in Redbridge, and Trinity Catholic High School, in Woodford Green.
