Girls at Woodford County High School reacted to a tough year of exams with a stunning set of A-level results

An impressive 92 per cent of grades were A* to C with 76pc A* to B.

Six pupils from the all girls school, in High Road, Woodford Green, achieved a clean sweep of A* grades across all their subjects and a total of 45 students achieved only A* or A grades.

Five of the girls have places confirmed at Oxford or Cambridge and so far a total of 23 places for medicine and dentistry have been secured.

Headteacher Jo Pomeroy said: “These results are to be celebrated.

“Girls have done themselves proud and have very strong foundations on which to build future studies and careers.

“Teachers have worked with enormous focus, skill and professionalism to manage change, to navigate linear syllabus requirements and to deliver completely new courses. Their achievements too shine through these results.”

One of the many stunning performances came from Suhaa Mahmood who got three A* in maths, further maths and physics.

A long time advocate for girls in STEM, Suhaa gained a place on Imperial College London’s prestigious STEM potential scheme where she was mentored by a PhD student within the engineering faculty.

She is now is off to read engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge University.

“She’s been an inspirational role model for younger students, organising STEM talks and planning for National Science and Engineering Week events.

“We will be watching her developing career with interest,” added the headteacher.
