A police constable and former union representative has appeared in court today after being charged with fraud.

Det Con Dennis Weeks, 45, of Gordon Road, Wanstead, who works with Redbridge Police, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court after being charged with committing fraud by false representation.

The charge relates to Det Con Weeks’ previous role as an elected official for the police’s union, the MPS Police Federation.

He resigned from that role in January 2015.

He will appear at Southwark Crown Court on October 26 and has been released on bail.

He has been placed on restricted duties while the investigation is on-going.

This comes after another Redbridge police constable was arrested with three other men from the borough on fraud charges relating to a luxury car hire company.
