Around 160 schoolchildren are performing music from African lullabies to Puerto Rican-style pieces at a series of concerts across the borough.

Maggie Goble, a Redbridge Music Service teacher, said the concerts have so far gone “brilliantly” and encouraged people to come to the final two shows this week.

“There were very good audiences at the concerts last week,” she said. “It was brilliant to see.”

Ms Goble said it is important children are exposed to concerts at an early age.

She said: “It raises the profile of music in the area and it brings everyone together.

“It raises the standard of singing too.”

The two remaining concerts are at St Andrew’s Church, in The Drive, Ilford, on Tuesday March 24 and at St Mary the Virgin, in High Road, Ilford, on Wednesday March 25. Both start at 7.15pm.

Tickets, costing £5.50, are only available on the door.
