MPs and councillors from four London boroughs are going to Downing Street today (Thurs) to deliver a petition against cutting services at King George Hospital.
Protesters signing the petition have expressed their anger and concern about a proposal to close the A&E and maternity ward at the hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes.
Redbridge MPs Iain Duncan Smith, MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, Mike Gapes, MP for Ilford South, Ilford North MP Lee Scott and MP for Leyton and Wanstead, John Cryer, will join 11 councillors.
Council leader Cllr Keith Prince (Conservative, Barkingside), and deputy Cllr Ian Bond (Liberal Democrat, Roding) and Cllr Andy Walker (Labour, Chadwell) will join colleagues from Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Waltham Forest, as well as the Recorder’s Sarah Cosgrove, in a show of strength.
Cllr Walker said: “It will show that the elected representatives across north east London are speaking with one voice and they don’t want King George’s Hospital to lose services.”
