An external scrutiny panel meeting is being held tonight at Redbridge Town Hall to discuss crime and safety in Ilford town centre.

Councillors will be quizzing police officers from 7.30pm in the hall, High Road, Ilford.

Cllr Khayer Chowdhury, who organised the meeting, said it was to reassure people that action was being taken against crime.

There have been several high profile incidents in Ilford recently, including a double shooting in Loxford Park and a stabbing in The Drive.

Police have cracked down on issues around Ilford station, arresting 19 people for drugs related offences in two operations at the start of September.

Cllr Chowdhury wanted to make it clear the event was just focused on Ilford town centre, and not other parts of the borough.
