Redbridge Council is the first local authority in the country to be recognised for the services it provides for deaf or hard of hearing staff and customers.

The Louder than Words Charter Mark was awarded to the council after it introduced special equipment and signage while staff also underwent training in deaf awareness and communication.

Kate Bull, executive director at Action on Hearing Loss, which allocates the charters, said, “It’s great to have Redbridge Council awarded with our Louder than Words accreditation, the first council to do so for all their services.

“I urge others to take their lead by making themselves accessible. It’s not just about good customer service - this is about fundamental human rights.”
